This year, I am working to spotlight the painful, and unjust experiences of women throughout history.

Wronged but punished, feared but unstoppable—Medusa wasn’t a monster.

When the world tried to break her, she became untouchable.

Let them call you dangerous—because power like yours should be.

Do you know the story of Medusa?

Medusa was once a beautiful priestess of Athena, devoted and pure. But when Poseidon took her against her will in Athena’s temple, the goddess punished Medusa instead—cursing her with snakes for hair and a gaze that turned men to stone. Cast out and feared, Medusa became a legend.

I prefer the version of the story where Athena transformed her into a monster to protect her. So no man could ever harm her again.

Medusa tattoos have become popular symbols for survivors. It is a way for women to tell their own stories on their bodies.

She symbolizes:

  • strength

  • transformation

  • power

Medusa was a powerful choice to kick off a month of celebrating women with tragic stories. I wanted to focus on the hardships endured by women this month. Every woman's story deserves to be told.
